The symbol of the CRAB expresses the character of those born between the dates of June 20 and July 19. Like sea creatures, Cancers live in an ocean of feelings. Their first concern is maintaining their comfort and safety, only then can they relax and enjoy life. Cancers often find themselves in roles of protecting and nurturing others. At their best they are incredibly warm, tender and responsive, but unappreciated they become irritable and withdrawn. Cancers will stand by their loved ones and support their homeland or country. They can be somewhat provincial or narrow in their outlook, unless they make efforts otherwise. Their religious beliefs and political leanings tend to be conservative. They act suspiciously to strangers and form new relationships slowly. Most of Cancer's decisions are based on their personal impressions, rather than reason. Being extremely sensitive, they unconsciously take in the moods around them. They especially enjoy visiting large bodies of water, if they cannot live near them.
For employment Cancers must find a place where they are needed. They like caring about others and parenting is a role that comes naturally. Day-care, kindergarten and elementary schools are great options. Being a counselor or social worker could satisfy Cancer's deep yearnings to make life better. They might like supplying people with necessities of life as a sales associate or straightening out messes as a customer service representative. Openings in the fields of restaurant work or institutional food service should be seriously considered. Training in hotel administration offers wonderful possibilities for advancement. Running a bed and breakfast facility could be very rewarding. Cancer's fascination with the past suggests enjoyment in selling antiques and working in historical societies. Also any creative work in music, art or movement allowing for the expression of feelings would be excellent.
Cancer's greatest skill is making emotional attachments and their hardest lesson is releasing these same attachments. They must learn when it is appropriate to hold on and when it is wise to let go. Although it is hard for Cancers realize this, they are very grasping or smothering in their relationships. Unintentionally they create difficulties for the very people they love by caring too much. And emotional blackmail is not out of the question. They also tend to be overly concerned, actually fearful concerning the unknown, especially at letting the future unfold. The past, regardless of what is was, is more comfortable because it is known. Cancers are sentimental, remembering every family member’s birthdate and saving everything as a momento. It is common for them to create emotional displays at family celebrations and public ceremonies, like graduations, baptisms, funerals and weddings. Cancers, both male and female, are basically domestic and see their home as their castle.
